The spiral is inherent in most dance/movement forms, is seen everywhere in the natural world and in ancient and modern art and architecture. The spiral is present in all of us through our DNA in the form of the double helix.
We have developed SpiralDance through an integration of Contemporary Dance, Martial Movement and other dance and movement forms. It brings awareness to the spiral pathways inherent in so much movement and is rooted in nature and the elements, which provide a rich source of imagery to inspire creative dance and choreography. It is a natural and expressive way of moving, underpinned by recognised technique and principles of movement. It inspires creativity, expands vocabulary and is a good tool for integration of dance styles and other art forms. It also brings new insights to traditional styles of dance and is healthy for the body.
Through our explorations in movement, we have discovered that the spiral activates and gives direction to the circle, ensures a living flow of energy, is the pathway to and from the source of a given movement, and the point of transition between movements.
It is an infinite source for exploration and creativity.
